About the Neshama Center
Neshama Center is a nonprofit educational organization based in the Roaring Fork Valley of Aspen, Colorado. We strive to bring Jewish traditions and life cycle celebrations to our community in a way that enriches us spiritually and intellectually in an open and inviting atmosphere.
Established in 2006, the Neshama Center offers educational programming to students from Aspen to Glenwood Springs with child, adult, and family classes that will ensure positive growth, unity, and the preservation of our culture and traditions.
It is an honor for us to prepare students for their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and guide them in a personal and meaningful way through their rite of passage into young adults who can participate in all areas of Jewish community life. In addition to presiding over B’nai Mitzvah and Hebrew school, we also officiate traditional and alternative weddings and all the life cycle celebrations. We observe with our Jewish community through the Jewish Holidays cycle and Shabbat.
A message from our Rabbi
I was born in Israel, to a family with roots that embraced Jewish life and traditions that can be traced back for over 200 years. Though the earlier years of my adult life I worked in a wide variety of fields, including theater, music and art. In 1988, when my wife and I moved to Aspen, Colorado, my mindset returned to my roots and the traditions. I began teaching and studying, and through this natural cycle I was inspired to become a Rabbi.
In the Renewal Movement I could choose a variety of studies that allowed me to uphold my traditional beliefs, while further exploring new ideas. For the last decade I have studied at Aleph Rabbinical School, The University of Judaism in Los Angeles, Open University in Tel Aviv, Bar Ilan University, Herzug Yeshiva, and Mevaser Shalom Yeshiva. I obtained ordination in 2012.
