In the 15th century it became customary to mark the occasion of a Bar Mitzvah. In the Jewish tradition, 13 is a time that a young person formally assumes religious obligations. They acquire the corresponding right to lead services, read from the Torah publicly, and are counted in the quorum for a Minyan. This is a time at which a young man takes responsibility for his actions. Jacob will lead us in this special service on his Bar Mitzvah.
